Remember when Mike Trout told me “Nice catch!” in Baltimore? I had snagged a home run ball the night before, and I wanted to know how he knew. Did he spot me from center field? Did he see my video of it? I simply HAD to get an answer, so when I saw him two weeks later here in Chicago, I asked him.
Maybe I was his good luck charm? Fifteen minutes after we had that conversation, the future Hall of Famer launched a colossal home run into my section in left field. No, I didn’t catch it, but it was still incredible to witness. Same deal with Shohei Ohtani, who crushed TWO homers in this game. And by the way, the home run distances that I mentioned in the video are slightly off, and I apologize for that. A friend at MLB texted me the distances right after these balls were hit so that I could talk about it in my video, but it seems that after further analysis, the distances were adjusted. So officially, Trout’s homer “only” traveled 461 feet and Ohtani’s 2nd homer went 459 feet. That’s still SUPER impressive, and I’ll try to be more careful when reporting home run measurements.
This game took place on May 31, 2023. The White Sox and Los Angeles Angels combined to hit six home runs, and I snagged a total of five balls — not bad for a day without batting practice. Shoutout to Rachel Messbauer who filmed and edited this video. Thanks for watching!
