The Los Angeles Angels take 2 out of 3 from the Kansas City Royals this weekend! While Halo fans were saddened to hear the news about Logan O’Hoppe and the surgery he will need, their spirits were lifted by an impressive Shohei Ohtani start on the mound as he struck out 11 Royals en route to a 2-0 victory on Friday. Mike and Jon talk about the O’Hoppe news, Jon recaps the game 1 victory, and we discuss Phil Nevin’s decision to rest Mike Trout on a Shohei start day in segment 1!
Then, the scoreboard may have malfunctioned on Saturday, but the Angels had the bigger malfunction in the 9th inning as Jose Quijada was not able to duplicate his performance from Friday night and blew the save. It causes the Super Halo Bros. to ask the question: does Phil Nevin have a hard time distinguishing between leaving a player in the game and boosting their confidence, or does he not have the knack to know when a player needs to be bailed out? We’ll talk about what it might mean in segment 2.
