Dave Roberts discussed Shohei Ohtani’s recent offensive struggles, Roki Sasaki’s outing against the Giants, and why the Dodgers lineup still hasn’t fully clicked offensively.
Roberts admitted Ohtani currently appears to be pressing offensively.
“I think he’s trying to swing out of it.”
The Dodgers manager explained:
Ohtani may receive a mental break around his next pitching start
Pitchers are refusing to give Ohtani hittable pitches
Ohtani has become more pull-heavy recently
His batting practice looked much better than the in-game results
Over-anxiousness may be affecting his approach
Roberts also discussed:
The Dodgers offense still not feeling fully connected
Missed opportunities with runners on base
Why he still believes the lineup will eventually break through
Teoscar Hernández and Max Muncy showing positive signs
Remaining patient during difficult stretches
On Roki Sasaki, Roberts said the rookie has actually pitched much better than recent results may indicate.
“Roki’s been good. I really do.”
Roberts praised Sasaki’s ability to consistently throw strikes deeper into games and said several softly-hit balls and unlucky breaks changed the final line.
The Dodgers manager emphasized that despite the frustrating losses, he still feels encouraged by parts of the team’s recent performance.
